The Watchmen

Sunday, 15th March, 2009 Comments Off

I missed The Watchmen on opening weekend due to illness, but having now seen it I’m glad I didn’t have to wait too long.

As a huge fan of the graphic novel (isn’t everyone?) I was a bit worried as to how it was going to turn out, especially hearing how the ending was going to be a little different and sections missing etc, but considering how close some sections were, and the changes not being as bad as I hoped (along with a really great job by the cast) I can live with it.

Lets just hope all of those cool extras on youtube etc are all going to be included on the dvd!

Dr. Horrible – The Sculpt

Monday, 2nd March, 2009 No Comments »

I’ll assume anyone reading this knows who Dr. Horrible is (and if you don’t shame on you, either download it on iTunes immediately or if you’re in the US it’s out on DVD, and most certainly pay the official site a visit).

Either way, as I’ve finally started to try my hand at sculpting again I thought a sculpt of the Doc would be quite fun (I’ll also be making a Captain Hammer at some point too). Here’s how far I’ve gotten so far, most advanced sculpt I’ve attempted yet, and I think it nearly looks like him, but not sure how much better I’ll be able to make it. Will hopefully get around to making a full figure (or even action figure if I’m feeling brave) at some point.

Ray LaMontagne

Thursday, 12th February, 2009 Comments Off

Finally done something post-worthy that I actually remembered long enough to write about!

I’ve been a fan of Ray LaMontagne since seeing him on an episode of Jools Holland a few years back, and on the 12th February, I got to go see him live in concert in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. It’s a great venue, especially when your wife buys tickets the morning of release to ensure you get a good seat nice and close to the stage to enjoy a really good gig.

A nice surprise for the night though was the support act, I’d never heard of her, but am now a proud owner of her album, and I suggest if you get the chance to go see Priscilla Ahn live then you do it, as I don’t think the album gets across quite how funny and talented she is on stage (gotta be impressed with a girl harmonising with herself twice during the same song after having to clear her throat at the start because of the head cold she’s suffering from), especially as ‘The Boob Song’ isn’t on her album!

Go to this link to hear the story behind the song, and then watch this version without the story but better sound.

I know I’ve not posted for absolutely ages and so I expect no-one will even read this or be affected by it, but the site might be down on and off whilst I upgrade Wordpress.

Missile base on sale as ideal home

It is the ideal home for an aspiring James Bond villain, or an anxious survivalist seeking a refuge that can withstand an atomic bomb.

A former US intercontinental ballistic missile base – with a network of underground tunnels and silos, but no nuclear warheads – is on sale on eBay for $1.5m (£750,000, 1.06m euros).

Shame about the lack of missiles though, otherwise I’d be seriously interested in making an offer :P

Chocolate Wolverine Part 2, now with an ‘Amazing’ friend

Saturday, 22nd March, 2008 Comments Off

I finally got round to finishing the Wolverine blank I mentioned in an earlier post, that I’m hoping to turn in to chocolate lollipops for my wedding.

I kept putting it off because it was taking a lot of work trying to get it all symmetrical, smoothed out and to the high level of finish that I wanted, but my fiancée reminded me that most people that will be seeing these aren’t comic fans and so won’t care if it looks like who it’s supposed to, or if the right and left sides of his costume match, and it’s only likely to last about three seconds after it’s discovered that they’re made out of chocolate before someone bites the head off anyway, so as she was happy with it I decided to leave him asymmetrical and call him finished.

For a bit of variation, I knocked out an equally asymmetrical Spider-Man (black suit so I didn’t have to try and sculpt the webs :P ), the texture looks a little weird on him, as I ran out of primer mid spray.

Iron Man

Saw this a few days ago over at Angry Zen Master and couldn’t not have it up here, I had mixed feelings when I heard they were making this film, but if the rest of it is like the trailer it could actually be pretty good.
