Morris: A Life With Bells On

Monday, November 16th, 2009

A funny, heart-warming, entertaining film about one mans passion for Morris Dancing. That’s right, Morris Dancing!

After seeing it this weekend, I can easily say this has the be the best “mockumentary” I’ve seen yet, and heartily recommend you visit the website to find out where it’s showing near you, and book tickets now.

Full of British talent (and international, the fantastic Dominique Pinon also has a minor role), great locations, and large amounts of cider, I was happy to join in when the audience spontaneously decided to applaud at the end of the film.

Go see it now.

Halloween Pumpkins

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Well it’s almost that time of year again, so I guess I’ll have another attempt at properly carving a Halloween pumpkin ‘a la’ the fantastic Ray Villafane.

I expect his site is getting loads of traffic as everyone checks his pumpkin carving tutorial nowadays, on how he makes such amazing sculptures out of a simple fruit (ok, vegetable if you prefer, but it has seeds, so technically it’s a fruit!), so if it’s down, try checking back later.

If I manage anything not too terrible I’ll post a few pics.

Bloody Pulp

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Been reading a few of the web-comics over at Zuda recently, and impressed with the stories this month I decided to sign up and vote.

The deal is that the beginning of 10 comics is put up every month, and depending on the votes, the winner continues to be serialized.

I quite want The Adventures of Mr. Simian to win, but as it’s ranked number 9 it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, so I’ve voted for the better of the top few, Bloody Pulp, and just hope it beats out the other main contender Rockstar.

Rockstar is kinda fun and well drawn, but it’s just nowhere near as compelling and interesting as Bloody Pulp, so go on, as a favour to me, click the image below, sign up and vote so I can get to read the rest of the story, you know you want to.

Christian Bale – John Connor

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Someone else I meant to post about just a few days after mentioning Yulli, was one of her co-workers from Hot Toys, Kojun

Check out his site and the Hot Toys site for yet more of his amazing work.

Heath Ledger – Joker

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Do not adjust your eyes, it actually is a toy and not the real thing!

Heath Ledger - Joker Heath Ledger - Joker

Produced by a company called Hot Toys and the head sculpted by one of their in-house sculptors called Yulli it’s one of the best sculpt likenesses I’ve seen of any person (and I’ve seen a few pretty damn good ones), I just wish I knew what she’d been drinking to get the sculpting super-powers.

Watership Down – FUBAR

Friday, March 27th, 2009

A friend just sent me a link to Cat Shit One, which I hadn’t heard of before, but looks like it’s been around for a while in Manga form.

Think I might have to pick it up and see what the original’s like, not sure if I should be amused or horrified, but very very watchable, see the trailer below to see what I mean!

Frank Miller – Batman

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Since making those posts about the Tony Cipriano HVATV episodes a while back there have been many sculptors and pieces of work I’ve meant to mention and have just kept forgetting.

Seeing pics today of this finished Frank Miller ‘The Dark Knight Returns‘ Batman sculpt, by a guy called Thiago Provin reminded me.

As a big fan of the graphic novel I can’t help but be impressed with how well he’s managed to bring this to life, adding an extra dimension of realism, but without detracting from the original design. Click on his name or the pic to see bigger pics.

As a way of making up for all the times I’ve missed mentioning great sculpts in the past I’ve added a new ‘Sculptors’ section to the links on the right, and will be adding more as I remember who I’ve missed off (and updating the Tony Cipriano one when I find one that works!).

The Watchmen

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

I missed The Watchmen on opening weekend due to illness, but having now seen it I’m glad I didn’t have to wait too long.

As a huge fan of the graphic novel (isn’t everyone?) I was a bit worried as to how it was going to turn out, especially hearing how the ending was going to be a little different and sections missing etc, but considering how close some sections were, and the changes not being as bad as I hoped (along with a really great job by the cast) I can live with it.

Lets just hope all of those cool extras on youtube etc are all going to be included on the dvd!
